Is the order of the words important or is quizaddict's suggestion of "four ball / paint ball" ok?

Thanks for all your help guys now only need one to answer. 6 letter word to link give and account and I believe the 2nd letter is o.

Assuming that give(CREDIT)account is no good to you, how do you know that the answer is 6 letters with the 2nd letter 'o' (if you knew from the start, it really would have helped if you had posted that info also)?

Also, my previous question about word order - can you give a little, so that we focus on getting the right answer for you?

give(NOTICE)account would work with the 2nd letter = 'o'.

There is a "Missing Links" puzzle that features each in Chris Maslanka's Puzzles in the Guardian which, by its very nature, would not reveal the identity or position of any letters in the correct answer as the words do not interlink as they do in crosswords.

Under those rules JimC's give(CREDIT)account would be most apt. (nice one son)

Sorry to confuse you guys with my original question.
To clear matters it was one of ten linkwords of which one particular letter from each word found makes up another word.Having found 9 of the answers I then knew which letter was left and where to put it in the final word. I should have told you in the first place it was for 6 letters. Sorrrrrry!!Have a nice day.
