Hi

I posted this on AB and there is a debate about what answer is correct

26a great old fashioned romance one to raise the spirits

Ripper or rapper

Rapper seems to fit as in spirit rapper and can mean a lie (or romance) but ripper fits old romance as in bodice ripper.

I originally thought ripper but know think rapper may fit better.

What have people entered here?

Thanks in advance

DJA

Chambers says of "rapper" - a great lie or oath (archaic).

No question, is there?

I responded to this on AB (different user name). I'm pretty sure it's rapper, for the reason given by AJT. I can't see how ripper can be justified (bodice-ripper maybe, but what about the rest of the clue?).

Yup. I'm with the rapper camp, though I wavered briefly when I saw AB. However, I couldn't be convinced by (bodice) ripper.
