Can anyone explain to me the last of today's cartoons - "It's not even the first of the month"?

Thanks in advance.

We don't get it either! Now it's troubling us. Sorry.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/coffeebreak/cartoons/strip.html

Quite mystifying and unfunny but Googling "first of the month" gives a Wikipedia entry with:
Traditions also extend to saying on the first of each month: "A pinch and a punch for the first day of the month ..."

So perhaps that has something to do with it.

thanks for the link. I'd say that was definately it, it's a very well known tradition where I grew up / live.

Not at all funy though I don't think.

Thanks Harrhy. Yep, a rubbish cartoon but, fortunately, most of his work is great. I love the one of the dog dressed in John Travolta disco gear dancing on the tabletop with the owner saying 'Get down!'.
