Ta Bernie. Trouble is, the letter 'I' across is a certainty. I am told that 'veal' is often used in their Profannisaurus to mean something we won't mention here...

pastille and Ixion. I think you're probably right .Trouble is, I've thrown away the bit with the clue, thinking I'd finished the crossword. Has anybody got 14 across?
