After nearly a week I have finished this harder-than-usual xword. There is one clue and answer I just haven't been able to tie up. That is 34 AC. "Shocking way of treating
dogs repelled police vet". The answer is no doubt "INSPECT" but the only bit of the clue which I can tie to that is "vet"! Can anyone please explain the rest of the clue?

Insp = Police +
ECT - Electro Convulsive Therapy (or something very similar!)

Electro Convulsive Therapy dogs=follows Police Service of Northern Ireland, backwards.
