The town in the Pied Piper is actually "Hamelin" not Hamlin, or it could be Hameln which is the German version but Hamlin does not appear in the poem by Robert Browning nor in the story by the Brothers Grimm.

Ah Campanilla we are in a pernickety mood today.
Yes you are correct(as usual)but on various German sites Hamlin is shown as alternative to Hameln.

Hameln ist eine große selbständige Stadt in Niedersachsen. Die Kreisstadt des Landkreises Hameln-Pyrmont ist an der Weser gelegen und vor allem bekannt durch die Sage vom Rattenfänger von Hameln, die die Überlieferung auf das Jahr 1284 datiert.

This German Tourism site uses Hamlin as the preferred English translation of Hameln...
