Stuck on a little one! 27ac Double brackets left for rent (5) s?l??

Thank you Chips - I feel really stupid not spotting that! Doh!

I didn't give much/anything by way of explanation - I just took 'split' as equalling tear,rent,rip. Am not sure what the double brackets bit means!

Me neither Chips, but seems to fit nicelt, and I have now finished

SP-IT brackets (surrounds) l (left) thus split or rent.just finished this one easy for a sat.

sallyw. I've just started logged on and seen your thread about the Times 24951 27a and Chips & Tommy's answer and explanation of 'split'. Chambers defines 'spit' as, inter alia, an 'exact replica' and thus is the 'double' that brackets 'left' - or am I being slow on the uptake and you had all already seen this?
