I’ve never heard of a Water Boatman insect before, I don’t think we have them in Australia, but now I’ve looked them up on internet, they are an amazing little insect…I don’t think I’d like them to live near me though, since they are known as the world’s loudest animal. I also agree that Water Boatman is the answer…..nearly forgot to mention that……

I must be going deaf. I was watching a shedload of them on the local river yesterday
and they didn't make a sound. They usually live on ponds, but the river is a series of ponds because of the drought.

Well I've never heard them make a sound either. That said, I haven't the least idea of the difference between a water boatman and a pond skater.
