I haven't visited http://www.whatsthisword.com/ for a long time but discovered today that the Google dictionary, which they use for their definitions, no longer exists. Is there an alternative online dictionary?

This is a handy site as it is a wordfinder and also does anagrams http://www.wordfun.ca/

http://dictionary.reference.com/ is another handy site as it gives definitions and has a thesaurus. It doesn't find words though.

if it is just a definition you want, type the word 'define' followed by the word in question into google.
usually the 1st/top answer will be the best - click on where it says 'More ยป'

Not everyone may be aware that you can use the on-line OED: http://www.oed.com/ You just need to enter your Library Card number to log in.

Well done trevor,I never knew of that "define" prefix.
I was helping a friend with an easy crossword today and did not know the name for the sort of scrub land found on the Mediterranean coast.I found the answer by other means and have just googled "define ??????" with perfect results
