Last two are annoying me.
24 A. Whacking bishop, or bending back private's equivalent (3) b?g
'Big' obviously fits 'whacking' and backwards it has 'GI/soldier, but it seems cumbersome!
8 D. Hacking expose sources get Murdoch finally stepping in to exploit MPs collectively (3,5) t?e ?o?s?
'The House' fits, and fits 'MPs collectively',but what's the connection with 'hacking expose sources...'?

Hacking expose sources = he
Murdoch finally = h
to exploit = to use

Hacking expose sources - H,E(1st letters)
get Murdoc(h) finally - H
stepping in to exploit H,E,H inside to use.

Thanks - I'd got as far as 'Murdoch finally'/'h' and 'uses' for exploits, but I didn't see the 'h' and the 'e' from 'Hacking exposes'!

The "or" in the clue had me puzzled until I realised it is short for Other Ranks (GI = equivalent version of private)
