[I] Goos morning friends. Hope you enjoy today's offering

I set crossies just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few of my clues? Since they're new, no letters!

Please withhold solutions till 5 pm (GMT+1) to allow others to have a go.

1. Initiate a painful bottom (10)
2. Pop back to take fruit crop up (5)
3. Condemn reportedly best foreign food (10)
4. Exile announced rigorous change by excluding Euclidean element (5)
5. Preserving unusually dear fungi in bag (12)

... or should I say, GOOD morning!

Not quite awake yet. Just noticed that the number of letters for 2 is (6) not 5.

Hi Jolan
Another set of thought provoking clues -

1) TENDERFOOT - Novice...TENDER (painful)
FOOT (bottom)

2) APPEAR - Crop up ....AP (Pa/pop back) PEAR (fruit)

3) KNOCKWURST - Foreign food...KNOCK (condemn) WURST ( sounds like/ reportedly) WORST which oddly can mean Best!

4) XENON - Element ..anag (change)EXILE ANNOUNCED less (excluding) EUCLIDEAN.

5) SAFEGUARDING - Preserving ...anag (unusually) DEAR FUNGI in SAG (bag)

Jolan I'm not sure how 'rigorous' in 4) helps the clue, as I took 'change' to be the anagram indicator? Am I missing something - wouldn't be the first time!
Thanks
Tony

Top notch, Ixion and Tony. Lovely explanations, as usual.

Tony,
You're absolutely right - 'rigorous' is superflous. Thanx for keeping me on the 'straight and narrow'. I'll try to be more rigorous in future. Those old unecessary words have a habit of creeping in. When I 'see' them, it creeps me out. lol.

See you next week.

I have been galavanting most of the day...

I an not sure I would have got any.

But I love tuning in every week to see how good clues are constructed.

And "hearing" the explanations to the answers.

Thank you Tony and Ixion. I am learning so much.

My favourite was clue 1, it's funny (could be rude if you were dirty minded).
