What is the theme to this EV?
I came up with minifry
small fish - mini fry
(fry being slang for electrocute ?)

The theme is the alternative verses to a well known nursery rhyme.
The second line reads
'In & Out the Eagle' so it is necessary to add or remove ERNE from the solution before entry to the grid.
1d is therefore F ERNE RY

The third line reads-
'That's the way the money goes' so M (money) must be removed before entry.
37d is therefore HAW(m) - lounge about.

12a Everyman - the misprint in the clue changes Zero to Hero - Everyman --always an unknown number to follow my answer.

hi jazzgirl

It's one of those puzzles you have to have in front of you to be able to help the questioner.

Enjoy your 'tasking'.

Yes jazzgirl they are fun and sometimes very sneaky.

In this week's the misprints in the clues spelled out 'Half a pound of treacle' but the puzzle itself dealt with the lesser known alternative verses in the ODQ.

"To be electrocuted" put me off as that would lead to "fried" not "fry". The clue should have read "Small fish to electrocute in America". Maybe I'm being fussy but this is careless clueing and it matters when the crosswords are trickier than average.
