Are you sure of the letters? Sobbed could possibly be grieved, but obviously not if the e is right.

I have never heard the word "greeted" as the past tense of greeting.
The word in common use is gret.
Maybe our resident expert on things Scottish,Pipesmoker,could give his opinion here.

Now got some more letters and it looks as if it could be greeted although I've never heard this used like this in the past tense either.
