Yes I think SPLIT EACH WAY fits 12) much better than TWO-WAY STRETCH. I liked KISS AND MAKE UP for 11) rather than CROSS-EYED although the latter has merit.

How about "parting of the ways" for No.12?

Hmmm. Too many good suggestions here for 12). It's just an island quiz so I suppose I can always put in two or even three possible answers to that and see what happens.

In the last local quiz I posted on here, there were only three correct entries and they picked out the wrong one so I had to buy my own Cabernet that week!

I suspect 4) might be THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY.

OK, I have two more:

8) LONG TIME NO SEE.

16) A CLERICAL ERROR.

Just 15) left to solve now.

I suspect you're right, thank God for that, one less to rack the brains over although it's quite the best one we've had for a long time...

15) is CIRCLES UNDER THE EYES.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. With a great deal of Googling (or should that be Googleing, and is it in OED yet anyway?) I finally uncovered this site:

which confirms that campanilla was correct with PARTING OF THE WAYS.

Time for cocoa and early bed as I have to be up at 06:30 tomorrow.

I prefer Campanillas "parting of the ways" for 12) and agree it is best quiz for a while.
