Viewpoint=vie (struggle)+w (with)+point(toaim)=stance

thanks greedy i think its a bit of a stretch,
using the first letter of words as part of the clue seems a new development to d mail.

...but "w" is given at least in Chambers as standard abbreviation for "with"!

ok i give in, still don"t remember it being used so much.i guess its the style of the composers

W(with) is quite common in crosswordland, i kinda took it for granted.
CW used to mean 'Coupled With' on records before people called them B-Sides but i reckon that there is a better usage than that.

heres another, rock-breaker runs into awful identical lump = pneumatic drill. nearly an anagram

runs = R (cricket term, i think).
put R into an anagram of 'identical lump'.

r= runs
