31A JFK doughnut? (8) ending in R or G (maybe circular?)

Berliner is the doughnut.

JFK was visiting Germany and while in Berlin said "Ich bin Ein Berliner" which translates as "I am a doughnut". He should have left out the "ein" in order to show solidarity with the people of Berlin!

I can't get 2d (4) 'Tau Sug sarong'. I've got s-l- and am thinking 'silk' but don't know why. Any ideas?
Also, for 10d (4) 'Rock's shy' I've got scar, but don't see the link to shy. Again, appreciate any input.

A su-lu is a sarong.
