cur = derogatory word for a mongrel dog
There's a river cur in Scotland somewhere!

Thanks all - should have got avon. not sure about the others though. I'd thought of bude but can't actually find a river Bude. I'd also thought of cur but it does say a mixed up doggy.

River Bude is in Cornwall
I have had quite a few mixed-up doggies to care for (mongrels) !

I just checked Bude in google and it only appears as the Bude canal, so not sure if that counts

is the last one the Wye perhaps?
