stuck on 2 clues

Doubtless people do (4,4) --r-/--r-
second word probably begins with an s but not 100%, so likely to be 'sure'

handy aid to warmth (4) -u--

Great appreciation for any help thanks

muff, yes thanks, was struggling to think of a 4 letter word for gloves other than mits

muff though would give me f as first letter in first word of the other clue and I'm pretty sure of the r in the first word too. So f-r-/--r-

solved it.

I had an er rather than an re (piaster rather than piastre) which makes the answer feel sure

thanks

Hi Kc
Sorry to abandon you yesterday . I answered your thread while I was at work and was called away, mid-stream so to speak. I didn't realise that the 2nd clue adjoined with the first but gave me a start when I returned home.
I attempt the Leicester Mercury cryptic every day, most days can be completed in approx 12-15 minutes (my target). Last nights edition proved to be a tough one.
