Strip is right -- meaning costume and band.
Roll (sounds like role, meaning part)

I hate clues like 9A. How do you know whether the answer is ROLE or ROLL?

I know what you mean,Bees. I'd say the answer should be role.

Noisily (sounds like)move = sounds like roll but by definition cannot actually be roll. So must be role (as in part). Or not as the case may be.

On reflection I think you're right, terry. If the setter's sticking to the rules, the definition should be the first or last word of the clue, so ROLE is right. My mistake.

ROLE is what I put. Another dubious cross word from RT. Oh well, at least I solved the Wordfinder which was HOME AND AWAY and there's number 30 out today although I won't get it until tomorrow.

Thanks chaps! You've set my mind at rest. I assume it's Ok to dispense with the circumflex, even though that makes it a vulgar Americanism.
PS When are the Yanks going to learn how to pronounce "Lingerie"?
