birthdaypresent

31st July 2011, 22:07
Hello all,

I am currently writing a cryptic crossword for my Father in Law to be as a birthday present. It seems to be going ok, I have tried to include some names and places personal to him, but also lots of normal words. Unfortunately, cryptic crosswords are a hobby that only him and I share in our family, so I have no one to test the clues on/ask for help.

If anyone would test some clues for me this would be really helpful. This is my first writing attempt and is very amateur, just a present for a nice guy to enjoy on his birthday, but clue improvements are welcome!

Thanks,
Kerry

1. Used to make plans clearer (5)
2. Strong feelings after french bike mix-up (4)
3. Disfigured armed target seen at night (5)
4. Leading revolutionary theorum on pulse used by nurse (11)
5. Expert in apron (5)
6. Split dipole to release phosphorus and scatter to yield relic. Golden some might say (5)

Am also currently looking for clues for either HAPPY, BIRTHDAY or the entire phrase!

Hi, can you give us the answers, so we can judge!

I am one of the "thick" ones on this site...

What a lovely idea!

2 LOVE

4 I thought THERMOMETER but can't quite get it to work with either spelling of theorem.

If it is what about;

Confused mother took pulse to find temperature.
Good luck with it. I did the same thing for my granddad this year and it took me forever.

As for your clues if they are cryptic and they work they are fine by me. I am partial to a nice surface(the way a clue reads in the whole. I totally understand your difficulty in rating a clue but don't worry about and get it down. Be careful though as it can become addictive. :-)
