Does anybody do the Listener crossword in the Saturday Times?.
I normally dont as I read the rules and try to understand (which I dont) and try and cast down the clues and try to get some answers which may throw some light (which it normally never does).
Today fininshing the two main crosswords I turned to the Listener and, miracle of miracles I think I understand it. I have become totally engrossed. I have come to an impasse and would dearly love a kick start. The gist is that there may be a letter in the clue that is superflous.
I think if I can get 17dn I could have a sniff. it reads...
What might produce eel or remover in the old world?(7)
I have ???in?r

Even if you cant solve this have a go at the puzzle.

I once got two answers in a Liatener crossword, and was so excited I had to go and lie down!

I have only ever done 2, one of which was amazing - the answers were all numbers. It was about Ancient Egypt and I have been looking for a reprint etc ever since.
I hardly ever understand the instructions now!

Thanks Terryaswas. Although you are spot on it doesnt quite open the floodgates.
I will persevere for a few more hours and then wait for next week, or whenever the solutions come to see if I understand it all!
At least it has got the grey cells out of cruise mode.

Having re-read that. My brain was never in "cruise mode". More like "Doggy paddle".
