The Guardian was a real battle today, get your head round this one if you can.

Ironic wish for food — eating shrub's rubbish, concealing go-slow among detectives and pupil (3,4,2,7,4)

The answer is THE BEST OF BRITISH LUCK.
I got this one from the definition and just a few crossers but every time I try to parse it I get too dizzy and have to stop.

I use it to mean trying to work out or solve the word-play in a clue.

T)HEBES(TO(FB)RIT(I)SH)(L)(UCK.
hebes (shrubS) inside tuck(food)
tosh(rubbish) around fbi (detectives) which is around rit (musical term, ritardando meaning play gradually slower) followed by L (pupil).
