I thought I had finished! When I went to ink in the answers there was a blank space.... 1a.
Clue is :- For punishment has priest confined regular communicant (3,3)
I have P * N, * A * .

As usual, I have thought myself up a blind alley (with blinkers on!) and can't think sideways.
