A bit obscure this one, but might be right for "Austens favourite (6,4)", so I'll give it a go ...

There is a bloke called Richard J Cunningham Austen, quite well known in the horse-racing world (think 'favourite'), who works (or worked) for the RACING POST newspaper.

I'm going to guess that "Today is the best day of my life" has been said and sung by many a heroine.

TODAY was Britain’s first national newspaper published in colour.

So that's my guess for the 3rd clue: TODAY.

Here's another outsider for the Austen clue. There was a magazine which ceased,I think,in the 1950s,called LONDON LIFE.
I seem to think that she preferred London to the other places that she lived in.

Nice idea that, too TJ.

I wonder if we will hear one day from TazMac25 (or anyone else) what the right answer is?

P.S. If Vanity Fair is the right answer then I will personally do Suesan's ironing for a year!
