Hello everyone, I'm new to this so thanks for help in advance. I just can't get 38 acrosss.

What is the clue and the number of letters?

The clue is "one temporarily transferred" (8)
I have put secondee which I hope is correct

Hi Jazzgirl; you need to put the publication ideally as well! If it's the Times Jumbo 2 I seem to remember that scondee is indeed the correct answer that was givwen earlier

Welcome Lindipops. In order to maximise your chances of getting a reply as well as putting name of crossword, and in the case of Times 2 whether you are doing the cryptic or not, the clue and number of letters also any letters you may have already. Use ? for letters you don't have. This means that even people who are not doing the same crossword as you may be able to assist. Last of all hope you enjoy the forum!
