Battling with this - and losing badly at the moment!

I'm trying to fit in 'reen' (unripe/green without the 'g') but am getting nowhere. Any advice, further clues would be greatly appreciated. I am not asking for the answer.

It's difficult to help with this without giving the word. The definition is eliminated material. You're right with the letters you have - the definitiomn of "pipes" is not the obvious

My highlighted word is 10 letters - no mention in the preamble of an unclued letter (3rd in my word) in there??

Whoops - ignore my last posting - I think 2 highlighted letters must come from 1 clue .
