Hi Stuart.

If there is a native American theme to the crossword, then the answer to the second clue ("edge of skate manoeuvre" (#?)) may be Mohawk (= a step from either edge of the skate to the same edge on the other foot in the opposite direction).

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. The second clue also refers to 13 down and is 7 letters.

There is such a thing as a choctaw turn in skating, apparently.

A choctaw turn is a turn in figure skating that involves both a change of foot and a change of edge and lobe. Choctaws are the two-foot equivalents of rockers and counters, in the same way that mohawk turns are the two-foot equivalents of three turns and brackets.
