I think I have it, but do not know why.
13a Odds and ends from pile we've thrown over vegetables (5) N-E-S
I have neeps, as in turnips, but can't find how it fits with the clue. Odds and ends of pile were is PLEWRE.
Any thoughts gratefully recieved.

end letters of pile, we've, & thrown are E,E,N, plus 'odds' (starting price SP)= NEEPS
