Could it be Precedent
(set a) Precedent - it becomes a rule, do the same thing for the 2nd time... blah blah, maybe?

Oddly enough, this clue appears on another crossword site as a five letter word. Does anyone have the Sunday Times crossword 4336 to confirm how many letters it should be?

It would be odd if Der and Simon agreed on Exegetist(9), if the real answer was a five letter word.

This is an odd forum tho, so what is the 5 letter answer?

Aha! I've seen the 5 letter answer.
makes me look a bit of an idiot for trying to shoehorn any old answer.

Gotta say tho,decent clues help.

Put the clue into my electronic Seiko crossword solver and this was the only word/answer with these letters that came up. Have not the clue or the paper to hand. Just worked out a word with the letters given, quite simply.
Regards, Simon

Sorry guys. I must apologise to you all. The local rag obviously lifted the ST crossword, but managed to get some of the accross and down clues mixed up. Sorry for the inconvenience I caused.
