WEST HIGHLAND way is a long walk. Remove (lose)way. There is a breed of small dog called a WEST HIGHLAND TERRIER which looks a better bet to me than the other suggestions.

If I were you I'd put a fiver on WEST HIGHLAND TERRIER as for the life of me I can't see how the other answers fit the clue in any way. Maybe I am missing something.
