I am puzzled as I have finished but am unhappy with 25d. I have metal as the answer but cannot see how this fits the second part of the clue....'' stone for roads ''......on the other hand I cannot see what else could fit in as I have m/t/l !
Any ideas?

I had the same problem - I put metal - have just looked it up in dictionary and it says road metal - broken stone used in road-making.

the only other word which fits is motel, vague association with road, but neither really makes much sense.
