Last two:

Joe bored by first half of game, being chicken (9) O-P-N-T-N. It has to be ORPINGTON (ie buff, the chicken), buy why?

Singer swallowing second-class sedative (9) P-RB-T-N-. Can't think of anything that fits here!

TIA, J

Hi Janie,

I'd would have gone for Barbitone.

Ooooh, yes, I can see where I've gone wrong, it should start with B. Thanks!

You've got me all confused now! If it's BARBITONE, which makes perfect sense, then 1dn is:

Stingy type, hard worker, going about like Heep.

I originally thought this was HUMBLE PIE, but I guess it should be HUMBLE BEE?

No, the first H is definitely right.

Indian thus cooking tongue = HINDUSTANI

Yes, H + 'UMBLE + BEE.

Thanks for all your input, guys, very much appreciated. Just wish my family was more interested in doing the crossy with me, then I wouldn't have to bother you lot!
