5d Be in hot city (4) B?T?

I know it's Bath, because I've submitted it on the Times Crossword website, and received no errors AND I can see B at H(ot)

But, since when can BE clue for B?

Surely there should at least be a question mark on the end of the clue, or maybe a " sounds like " indication.

It is because B can stand for BE in textspeak?

Any thoughts, people?

Aaargh!

The " Times for the Times " website explains

Be in = BAT

Hot = H

I thought it wasn't quite right!

Well, I am as not too sure, mainly because I am thick, but surely it is B at h? If I am correct it is a lax clue.

'Pon my word Miss Elphinstone, I do believe you are correct! As a cricket follower - thanks to my lovely husband - my first thought was that it had connotations of the sporting sort.
