An outsider as an alternative to your Thyme could be ZENITH,a type of marigold ??

I agree - more than one digit required. As for your "zenith" marigolds. They are F1 hybrids specially bred for their garish colours - I bet you saw them in Madeira ?

I already had 'digitalis' for another one - 'a heart stimulant'.
If it is Thyme I wonder why the compiler specifically stated noon or midnight?
Sallyw - it is a quiz so unfortunately dont know how many letters.

Found a very obscure reference to a "12 o'clock flower" on an Oz website, but can't find it anywhere else.
