Note the smallest amount without hesitation (5)

_i_i_ I am thinking minim but cannot fully see how it derives from clue.

Guidance appreciated. Ta.

minim -"um" is the hesitation

smallest amount - minimum -.
hesitation = er, or um.
minimum without um = minim.
