I set crossies just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few of my clues? Since they're new, no letters!

Please withhold solutions till 5 pm BST (GMT+1) to allow others to have a go.

1. Glaring at Alan sent Rob insane, without reason (6)
2. Complaint of the first six taxi drivers to lose a trailer (7)
3. They’re usually unwanted accompaniments to fruit? (12)
4. This is just a post (7)
5. Newly assigned phone boxes - “women only”? It’s actually happening (10)

Hi Jolan

As usual I enjoyed your clues and will be back at 5pm with my suggested solutions, but I thought I should point out that I believe the letter count for No 1 should be 7 and not 6 as given.

I've got 1,3,4 and 5 plus an answer for 2 that I can't quite parse. 5 is a beautifully elegant surface!

Hi Jolan. My suggestions today-

1) Blatant - Glaring
anag(insane)AT ALAN SENT ROB less (without)
REASON
2) Scabies - Complaint
S (first six) CA(b)BIES (taxi drivers losing B which'trails' A!)
3) Gooseberries - Unwanted accompaniments & fruit
4) Upright - another double definition - Just
& a post
5) Phenomenon - Actually happening
anag (newly assigned) PHONE boxing in NO MEN
( women only)

I'm a firm believer that a sign of a well set clue is when every word in the clue is relevant, and your clueing meets this with no superfluity. Well done again.

Thank you Tony & Bullfrog. I try to be extra-careful that there are no mistakes when presenting clues to such an august gathering as we have on this site. Nevertheless, 7 is should have been for no. 1. Didn't put either of you off, though.

Tony
A superb set of solutions and explanations (as usual). Thank you very much for your kind comments. Much appreciated and heartening.

Bye all. Must go and take a peek at an 'adjacent' post with my title included in it.

Damn -- got distracted by CLUELESS at the crucial time. I was relieved that I'd got them all right, even Scabies which I couldn't quite parse, taking 'lose a' too literally...

Well done Jolan & Tony
