This has got me stumped.
Had ukulele crushed and was severely rebuked(10) ? E ? * ? + ? L ? D
I think * is an L and + is an A or C (cross clue is phobia or phobic). Tried anagram of 'had ukulele". * comes from clue: Shoot nurse by Short River (T ? N ? R ? ?) - I think it's TENDRIL

You right with TENDRIL - tend is nurse and a short river is a ril(l)

Thanks Boltonian. I am sure you are right and the setter couldn't add up his E's and U's - really annoying as I had put much time into it.

There are two spellings of ukelele/ukulele.
You used the latter when you quoted the clue. However the anagram works with the former. There is something funny somewhere!

A lot has to do with people relying too much on spell check (it accepts both). We had a full page ad "greatly sort after .." - ewe wood think someone wood cheque it.

Help please with 2 down and 15 across.
2 down I have a-/v-l-r-m
15 across I have t-i-a-e
These are the only 2 remaining; I've never completed this many words before. Not sure a bout the word 'ebriate' though either.
Aren't cryptic crosswords great fun?

Sorry, I made a typo in my question re 15 across. I have t-i-b-e. Is the answer something to do with 'cable'? tks HJ

2 down is AD VALOREM - Latin for depending on the value of something.

With no clue I'm not sure but is the other one THIMBLE ?
