Clue of the week:
Have cheese sandwiches and chocolate cake (7,first letter B)
taken from Magpie crossword magazine,Dumpynose.

Also this week we are asked to solve all the down clues, take either the first or last letter from the solution before entering in the grid, and then use the spare letter to enter the longest unclued solution across.
So I'm stuck on
28d. Attractions coming up in area of short grass(4)
so the answer is five letters, and as I have solved the unclued solution the letter that is dropped is an S. I have W_R_.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Could it be Ward?
A sward is an area of grass, and you have to drop the s. Also an attraction is a draw and you have to reverse it for "coming up"
