Have only two to get - am now stuck and wonder if I've gone wrong somewhere.
40 A. No matter which cutting tool is suggested for the sets (7) e-ne--s
(Not 100% certain of the 'n')
My other one is unclued, tied to the theme, so I'll slog away at that.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Good morning Morven,

40a looks like enneads which is groups of nine but, for the life of me, I can't see what the construct is.

Hopefully, I'll be back...

Regards,

Caravaggio

Thanks - I'd got it already. 'Enneads' sounds like 'any adze'!
Am finished now.

My last one and nothing seems to fit the clue:
23d Size of the Guardians's doughnut ?E?LINER
Maybe I have a letter wrong, but I can't see how the clue might fit any suitable answer???

I put 'Berliner' - a type of doughnut. Not sure how it fits in with the rest of the clue, though.

Hav done some research - the Guardian newspaper changed its format to a smaller size, apparently called Berliner!

The Guardian is printed in Berliner size
like the German papers.

President Kennedy's famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech caused some derision because it reputedly translates as "I am a doughnut". It's an urban myth. The President got it right.

Good puzzle today, I thought.

Hi PeterM

I agree a good one.

Did you notice that Doc runs a crossword weekend in Devon?

I wonder whether that would be a good use of a few days away?
