A bit late starting, LOADS of gaps. Is it just me or have the last 2 or 3 jumbos been hard to finish? 13a be made clear ultimately, like the river Welland (4,3,2,3,4), 19a it helps keep the salt dry in sweet-and-sour cooking (9) and 55a betrayed 42, dropping ones own article in club (4,4,3,5). I can usually get cracking once I've done the multi-worders - so, help, someone get me cracking!! Thanks in advance.

Your not-picking is good and here's another nit: 34dn, "restraint provided by another robe across the channel", answer forbearance...but to be exact, he should have said "across other side of channel."

Hi Barking dog Good to see you got a mention at 35ac. Penny did not drop until I realised you are nuts!!!!! No offence.
On Picknitting one comes across more than occasional examples of slack definitions.
Cant do much about it except grimace then smile then finish the puzzle.
All the Best THEA
By the WAY Is 11dn TREVELYAN
"Dramatist inept at reading"(9) T?E?E?I?N
