This is hard today! Have managed most of the bottom section but stuck on top half!
2a Sink beside bar, tavern's first drinking fountain (11)
13a Anything but soothing ointment disheartened the French (8)

Do you have any letters?

2a First bit is word for 'sink' perhaps a fleet of ships. The 'bar' means an exception and the taverns first (T) is the last letter of the answer. The whole is in Chambers.

2ac scuttlebutt

13a Another word for ointment with the middle letter removed + the French for 'the'. Whole would not be soothing.
