The clue for 18 Down is: "have a busy social life after move abroad" (4,3) Could it be "STEP OUT"??
"Italian Vermouth" fits and I get "it" as an abbreviation for Italian but where does the vermouth come in? (The clue is "This is it"(7,8))

There is a cocktail called 'Gin and it' which is gin and ITalian vermouth - a forerunner of a martini. Hope this helps!
