my brain has been out of gear this week, having made 2 errors already. This time I am certain (!!) of the letters I provide
1.King included in prohibition,however,turns up,the bearer of gifts(4,3) B?A? ??B
- bear cub fits but no sense
2. Runs in the first heat(5) ??A?S
The first letter = first letter of 3 letter word above

1. Bran Tub.

2. thaws?
kinda fits but not a great match.

Thanks Trevor. Googled bran tub - you're definitely right on that one. Thaws sort of fits - some of the clues are not too good.

I agree Widger,not a great clue - if 'thaws' is correct.
