Thank you both. Eoliths seems to fit with the letters I had. I should have remembered the word, at one time someone on an archeological program picking up almost any stone would say it was an eolith.
Is it me or is this a new setter who is slightly forcing the clues because he/she is not witty or clever enough...i really didn't enjoy this puzzle and still aven't finished it!
There have been lots of comments expressing a certain amount of dissatisfaction with the setter of this puzzle, BD. Let's hope it goes back to being its difficult (for me, anyway) but excellent self.
