Good morning Dizoz - I've just downloaded mine. I'm glad someone has the same reaction - oh dear. I've read through, and nothing makes sense at the moment. A cup of coffee may help.

Couldn't get back before, Dizoz - my broadband failed for a while. I haven't got a glimmer yet, just hoping for a breakthrough.

I assume the five misprinted letters are throughout the grid, not for each clue! But I have no idea how a "passage" is defined. It certainly doesn't seem to be a quotation.

I read it as five letters from all of the clues. I've noticed a few words that just ring false - eg in 7d the f looks out of place.

I think a passage just means a sentence. They don't seem to be quotations. But I haven't got any yet.

18d includes "pistol" and "of firing"

Nowhere with this - suspect some of the entered words must split an existing word in the passage

A major problem I'm finding is that becuase it's a xword, I'mm automatically looking for a definition - and we don't want one.

I'd thought the same as you on 18d, dizoz, but the only other idea I've had was 13 ac. How about "toasted the cook?"
