Good afternoon to you all, from a damp a dreadful Kent, on this miserable Sunday. Can anyone help/hint with 12a) Head of State leaving wine district very sober (5). I have so far... G _ A _ E. Now, it could be GRAPE with the wine connection, or GLADE (no connection that I can fathom) either way I can not link these up. Dazed and confuzzed.

Without giving too much away - think of a wine region in Bordeaux where Sauternes comes from.

Thank you... 'GRAVE' it is then. However, how does that fit in with Head of State ? Lost still.
