I have put Rotarian - member of Rotary - but can't see the word play. Often can't with Jeff Pearce ! Help appreciated.

Thanks folks - I must cut out and save Mr Pearce's crosswords and work out how his mind works.

I thought his clue for 1 across was weak and very low quality, he used two words to point towards the anagram and the word definition part was very loose.
The clue and answer are:

1a) Abstract esoteric Polish paper dealing with the economy

Ans; Shoplift

One definition of abstract is to take without permission hence shop lift. The esoteric I can only assume means, can only be understood by crossword solvers. I agree not very good, but very clever once solved, you should be proud of yourself.

My apologies to the setter for me being an arse.
Thanks blue moon, I was reading it wrong, of course the Abstract is shoplift and the economy is connected with the paper, hence FT.
The whole clue was the wrong way round in my head.
A very clever clue, and thanks again for putting me right
