There are two of which I am not sure.

8A Instrument connected with old German (5) ?A?O?

1D Hurled over loudly (5) ?H?E?

For 8A I have KAZOO which, if you are a Radio 4 listener, you would recognise as a musical instrument, but I don't see the link to "connected with old German".

For 1D I have THREW which fits with "hurled" but not "over loudly".

Any ideas?

I should have added that the Wordfinder letters I have are GQVAHCANK, which is clearly nonsense, so there may be something else wrong.

"over loudly" = sounds like through (eg.
I'm through with it)

Thanks trevor, both of those explanations make sense. If I was the compiler, I think I would have put "soundly" rather than "loudly". The latter usually indicates "F" or "FF" to me.

Dearest campanilla must be on strike as we haven't heard her dulcet tones for a while. Maybe it's just too hot down there in Spain. It was 26 here today in Arran and supposedly it will be hotter still on Sunday.

Good morning John & Trevor,

I have THREW and SAXON too and, like Big Dave, I despair at the construct of some of the Radio Times clues.

Out of curiosity, John, what is your television and radio reception like on the Isle of Arran and if you have a DAB radio has that improved your radio reception?

Kind regards to you both,

Caravaggio
