Evening all,
Struggling on top right tonight and after pinching DIOGENES from earlier thread, I now have a G in 6d), the clue is
Food to do for, say, a thousand pounds (6,3) S - - - C -,- - G.
I am thinking Scotch egg, but cannot see the wordplay if correct.
Any ideas welcome please

scotch - put an end to.
eg - say
g - thousand pounds.

do for- scotch, say- eg, a thousand,-grand-g

never even saw the scotch as do for, but now see it, I think I may have seen it in another tense, Done for = Scotched, thwarted, snookered or crippled (as ixion stated). Thanks again.
