Can anyone explain 7d; Character accepting totals for the first time arrives at fifteen.
l-i-e-t-r. The answer appears to be Leicester.

character = LETTER
accepting totals for the first time = replace the 1st T with ICES [totals = destroys = ices]

An ingenious explanation indeed sudokulover.

The clue for 15ac is;Race in football strip across pitch going round and round. Answer being , rotary.
